19-year-old driver crashes after street racing on I-4 in Hillsborough County: FHP

A driver was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly participating in a street race on a local interstate.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers were conducting a traffic stop on I-4 near westbound Milepost 10 when a group of eastbound vehicles passed them around 2:05 a.m.

Troopers said the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, and Toyota Supra were traveling together at approximately 90 MPH.

Another trooper was watching eastbound traffic near Milepost 12 when he observed the three vehicles traveling at approximately 100 MPH.

When the trooper attempted to overtake the cars, FHP said they took the exit to McIntosh Road, and two of the vehicles “blacked out.”

The Supra and the Challenger completed the right turn onto McIntosh Road, but the Charger hit the concrete barrier and became disabled.

The Trooper arrived at the crash scene in time to secure the driver, identified as Juan Bahena, 19. He was charged with reckless driving with property damage.
