UPDATE: An 82-year-old Panama City woman died after being struck by an SUV in a Publix parking lot Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say a 26-year-old man from Atlanta was backing a Toyota SUV through the parking lot off Navy Boulevard and Magnolia Beach Road when the woman walked behind the vehicle.
FHP says the driver didn’t see her, hit her with the back of the SUV and knocked her to the ground, then kept backing up and ran over her.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where troopers say she later died from her injuries.
FHP also says both the driver and his 29-year-old passenger had ICE detainers and were taken into custody and booked into the Bay County Jail with help from the sheriff’s office.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a death after a black SUV hit a woman on Sunday in Bay County.
Officers with both FHP and the Bay County Sheriff’s Office responding to the call showed up at the Publix on Navy Boulevard. They say the SUV ran over a woman.
That woman died, and FHP is now investigating.
