2 in custody after 16-year-old girl shot near Pasco County middle school: police

Police said a girl is recovering after a reported shooting near Gulf Middle School Wednesday morning.

According to the New Port Richey Police Department, officers responded at 7:25 a.m. to a shooting investigation in the area of Louisiana Avenue and Colonial Drive.

The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Police said the scene is secured and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Two people present at the scene, one of which has multiple outstanding warrants, are in police custody, NPRPD said. Their names have not been released.

Richey Elementary School, Gulf Middle School, and Gulf High School were on controlled campus status while police investigated the incident. They have since resumed normal operations.

The investigation is ongoing.
