Two individuals were killed while traveling on Interstate 75 in Marion County on Saturday evening after their vehicle left the highway, crashed into a light pole and became engulfed in flames.
The fatal accident took place near mile marker 341 on I-75 on Saturday, May 17, at around 9:35 p.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a woman was driving a sport utility vehicle northbound on I-75, in the right lane. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.
After leaving the roadway, the vehicle entered the east grass shoulder before striking a concrete base support for a light pole head-on. After the collision, the vehicle caught on fire.
The driver and her passenger, a man, sustained fatal injuries during the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
