Fire at Goatfeathers Seafood Market believed to be an accident

The fire that broke out at Goatfeathers Seafood Market in Santa Rosa Beach on Wednesday is believed to be an accident.

According to the South Walton Fire District, shortly before 11 a.m., firefighters responded to a 911 call regarding a commercial structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire with low visibility on the restaurant’s second floor. Crews then confirmed the building had been evacuated and began working to extinguish the fire.

SWFD reported that crews moved to a defensive position after the Incident Commander evaluated that the roof and second floor could collapse. The Incident Commander then requested a second alarm.

It was reported that firefighters worked for several hours to mitigate hotspots within the roofline. A crew also remained on scene through Wednesday night to monitor any flare-ups.

SWFD reported that its investigators worked with the State Fire Marshal’s Office to find the cause of the fire. Initial findings revealed the fire most likely started in the kitchen area and was accidental.

SWFD investigators are back on scene Thursday morning to continue their investigation into the cause of the fire.

The Goatfeathers Seafood Market suffered significant damage from the fire, but no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
