26-year-old pickup truck driver ejected in deadly crash on Southern Blvd.

A 26-year-old man was killed Friday after his pickup truck struck two vehicles and a streetlight pole while trying to pass cars on Southern Blvd.

According to deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Joseph Taylor Alvarez was driving his pickup truck eastbound near Jog Road in the left lane of Southern Boulevard around 10:05 p.m. on Friday.

Alvarez sped past a Mercedes and a Volkswagen traveling eastbound in the center lane, hitting both with his front passenger side before veering right into a metal street light pole on the shoulder, according to the crash report.

As the crash ensued, Alvarez was ejected from the window and landed on the southern sidewalk.

He was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where deputies say he later succumbed to his injuries.
