Three people were hurt, two of them officers, after a multi-vehicle crash involving a police officer occurred in Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue responded to the area of Northwest Sixth Street and Seventh Avenue, Tuesday afternoon.
7Skyforce hovered over the scene, capturing the unmarked Fort Lauderdale Police cruiser being up-righted after it ended up on its side in the middle of the intersection.
Authorities said the dangerous day started when officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was wanted in a felony investigation.
Officers were preparing to use the Grappler, a tool FLPD implemented to try to stop people who won’t pull over, but the driver took off and crashed into another car before bailing out of the vehicle a few blocks away near West Sunrise Boulevard.
Two officers were inside the cruiser that crashed.
Detectives said they were responding to a call and had their lights flashing and sirens blaring when they were struck and flipped onto their side.
Both officers and another driver were taken to the hospital with injuries that were non-life threatening.
Detectives said one suspect is in custody.
It remains unclear how many subjects are on the loose after they bailed out of the vehicle and ran into a nearby neighborhood.
Broward Sheriff’s Office sent a helicopter to conduct a search of the surrounding area for those subjects, but there is no update on that as of late Tuesday night.
