5-year-old hit by car near school in Port St. Lucie

5-year-old hit by car near school in Port St. Lucie

A 5-year-old child is injured after being hit by a car near a Port St. Lucie school Friday morning.

The young boy was riding his bike near Oak Hammock K-8 School around 8:09 a.m.

Port St. Lucie police say he was riding west on the sidewalk and onto the crosswalk of the bus loop on Southwest California Boulevard.

An adult man driving a black Mercedes was traveling eastbound on Southwest California Boulevard.

He made a left turn into the bus loop, but police say the westbound traffic blocked him from seeing the child on the bike.

The 5-year-old was taken to a local hospital, but police say he sustained minor injuries.

The driver was not injured.

The investigation is still active.
