Six people were displaced from their homes after a fire erupted early Tuesday morning inside a quadruplex in Pompano Beach, a city spokesperson confirmed in a news release.
According to the spokesperson, the fire was reported at about 3:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Northwest Fifth Street.
City officials said 14 adults were inside the building’s four units when the fire erupted.
“One adult male suffered a laceration after jumping from a window to escape the flames, while another individual experienced a seizure,” the news release stated. “Both patients were transported to Broward Health North for treatment. The remaining 12 residents escaped without injury.”
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene later in the morning and saw broken windows and crime scene tape around the home.
Residents said they’re unsure how the fire started.
Pompano Beach firefighters and an ambulance cleared the scene by 5 a.m.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office then took over the investigation, putting crime scene tape up as they investigated what led up to the blaze.
City officials confirmed that two of the four units were deemed “uninhabitable,” leaving six residents displaced.
The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing to those affected.
It’s unclear whether any injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by BSO, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue investigators and the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office.
