Cape Coral Firefighters put out a house fire, rescuing a family and their 15 pets.

On Wednesday at approximately 8:30 pm, fire crews in Cape Coral responded to a fire at a home in the 3700 block of SW 6th Pl.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire from one of the windows. They improved conditions inside the structure by performing vertical ventilation.

All residents, including seven cats and three dogs, got out safely. Firefighters also rescued two cats, two rabbits and a snake from the home.

The building inspector red-tagged the residence, and the Red Cross was asked to provide temporary housing assistance.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical, and it started in one of the bedrooms. The State Fire Marshal assisted with the investigation.
