85-year-old man hit by car, dies in attempt to cross busy highway

An elderly man was killed Wednesday while trying to cross Dixie Highway about 100 feet from the nearest marked crosswalk.

A Toyota Corolla, driven by 29-year-old Nicole Rodriguez of Palm Springs, was traveling southbound when the elderly man, Miguel Francisco of Lake Worth, “darted” into the roadway. He was struck and taken to the St. Mary’s Medical Center where he later died, according to a crash report.

The man’s next of kin was notified.

Francisco was pronounced dead less than two hours after the impact, the report said. Rodriguez did not sustain any injuries.
