The Tampa Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday morning.
It happened at the 2800 block of Fowler Avenue between 22nd Street and 30th Street, and police said they responded to the scene at around 9:20 a.m.
Officers arrived to find a deceased 70-year-old man, who they said was crossing the street from south to north, mid-block, outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a car.
Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. TPD said neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash and no charges were filed against the driver.
Drivers were asked to find alternate routes as all westbound lanes were closed on that stretch of Fowler Avenue for a few hours.
