In an unfortunate incident, a 70-year-old man from Wewahitchka lost his life in the early morning hours when the pickup truck he was operating veered off the road and collided with a ditch.
The Florida Highway Patrol, in a press release, reported that the accident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. as the truck was exiting a driveway located at 6091 State Road 71 in Wewahitchka, near Bill Nelson Road.
The truck had been heading east after departing the driveway onto the west shoulder of State Road 71. However, upon exiting, the truck continued eastward, traversing both the north and southbound travel lanes before ending up on the east shoulder of SR 71.
After leaving the roadway the truck collided with the ditch on the east shoulder of the road.
The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was rushed to Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
