83-year-old man dies in Gainesville crash; two others seriously hurt

 UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol says an 83-year-old man from Bell was killed. A 33-year-old female passenger, also from Bell, was seriously hurt, along with the driver of another vehicle.

FHP says the 83-year-old was driving a Ford Maverick eastbound on NW 78th Ave. while a second driver was southbound on CR 235. The driver of the Maverick traveled into the intersection of CR 235 and NW 78th Ave. in front of the driver of a Nissan Maxima, resulting in a rollover crash. The driver of the Ford was killed. The driver of the Nissan was seriously hurt, according to FHP.

ORIGINAL STORY: Emergency crews responded to a traffic crash on a major roadway in Gainesville on Wednesday evening.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office officials say a crash happened near the intersection of West Newberry Road and Fort Clarke Boulevard.

Officials say a serious injury has been reported. Westbound lanes are blocked as of this report. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

Meanwhile, a deadly rollover crash with three patients happened near the intersection of County Road 235 and Northwest 78th Avenue, which is between High Springs and Newberry.
