The state fire marshal is investigating a deadly house fire in Jackson County.
The house fire occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday at a home off Highway 69 in the Delwood area.
When Jackson County Fire Rescue firefighters arrived, they said there was smoke and flames coming from the brick home.
Authorities said there were three people inside when the fire started, and two escaped unharmed. Despite the heavy fire, they were able to rescue the 99-year-old homeowner.
Paramedics took her to the hospital, where she later died. Fire Chief Charlie Brunner said that the fire started in the victim’s bedroom, but they don’t yet know what started it.
Brunner also said that the roof had several layers, which made it tougher to fight the fire. News 13 will have more details once the authorities release the information.
