1 dead, 1 in custody after dispute between neighbors leads to shooting in Hialeah

One person was killed and another was taken into custody after a dispute between neighbors led to a shooting in Hialeah, police said.

Hialeah Police units responded to reports of shots fired near 710 East Ninth Street. Upon arriving, officers found one person dead and took another into custody.

The victim’s family said he was there to visit a friend when the shooting happened.

The victim’s cousin, B, told 7News in Spanish that they were inside an apartment when they heard a knock at the door. The victim and another man went to answer when the man who knocked shot and killed him.

The devastated family said he did not know the shooter.

Hialeah Police confirmed the shooter lived right next door.

In Spanish, B said the shooter should pay for what he did. While the victim has not been identified, he said the man was in his early 30s.

Investigators said they believe this was an isolated incident that appears to be a dispute between neighbors. They believe there are no further safety concerns to the public.

The victim’s family said the hardest part now is the suffering they will endure after losing him.

The victim’s body was removed from the second-floor apartment by investigators, Tuesday afternoon. It’s unclear what the dispute was about as of Tuesday night.

Police have not released any information about the victim or the person in custody, or whether there will be any charges.
