Report: 18-year-old hits police, paramedic after found bloody, drunk in Bruce Beach water

Report: 18-year-old hits police, paramedic after found bloody, drunk in Bruce Beach water

An 18-year-old is charged with striking two police officers and a paramedic after being found bloody and intoxicated in the water at Bruce Beach in Downtown Pensacola.

SB was booked into Escambia County Jail on Tuesday on charges of:

  • battery on officer or EMT (three counts)
  • resisting arrest

He has since been released on $8,500 bond.

The incident happened on May 15 around 1:20 a.m. at Bruce Beach on W Main Street in Downtown Pensacola.

According to the arrest report, police were called to the park for a “drunk male needing assistance.” Upon arrival, officers located B, who appeared to be “very intoxicated.”

The report states he was in the water with lacerations to his elbow and chest. His front teeth were also chipped, while his shirt and pants were “filled with blood.”

The report does not state how B initially ended up in the water.

EMS arrived on scene with the Pensacola Fire Department.

“Since B was so far out into the rocks surrounded by water, all the agencies gathered around to formulate a plan to extradite Boles back onto land,” an officer noted in the arrest report. “However, B became argumentative.”

The report states B was told “multiple times to stay where he was for his safety, but he insisted on trying to stand up to leave. B was clearly too intoxicated to navigate the rocks safely without risking further injury.”

According to the report, two police officers held B in place for a few seconds until he gathered himself to sit.

“B then stated he was going to count to three before he started hitting all of us,” the officer noted in the report. “B closed his fist, counted to three, struck me in my left knee, kicked [the other officer] in his leg, and then struck a paramedic on scene.”

The report states B then resisted arrest, which prompted an officer to use his taser on Boles.

“After he was tased, B braced his arms underneath his body, which prompted [the officer] to taser B once more,” the officer noted in the report, adding that he then said “good shot” before agreeing to cooperate going forward.

The report states B was transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
