A rented U-Haul vehicle accelerated into the side of a building at approximately 9:11 a.m. June 15, injuring two bystanders and causing an estimated $15,000 in damage.

According to the Orange City Police Department, the vehicle was making loud noises when it started. When the driver shifted into drive, the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably and did not stop until it struck a building on South Volusia Avenue.

Police said there were no signs the driver was impaired. No charges were filed and no arrests were made.

In addition to hitting the building, the U-Haul struck two bystanders. Both were transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

One of the victims was walking in front of the vehicle when they were struck. The other was an employee standing next to the building at the time of the crash.

The driver declined medical transport but was later taken to a hospital by his wife for evaluation.
