Spring Hill house fire caused by child playing with lighter, firefighters say

Spring Hill firefighters battled a blaze early Sunday that investigators said was caused by a child playing with a lighter.

Crews said they were called to the 3000 block of Greynolds Avenue in Spring Hill at midnight.

There, they found a mattress in a child’s bedroom on fire. Crews worked quickly to knock the fire down. No one was hurt.

Investigators said the child had found a lighter on top of the refrigerator and started playing with it, causing the blaze.

Crews spoke with the child’s parent about youth fire prevention.
