A Lake County woman was arrested for battery after allegedly biting her mother and threatening to cut her hair with scissors.
Officers responded to a battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 12:20 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Upon arrival, they met with the mother of 37-year-old QRS and two witnesses.
The mother stated S came up to her inside the residence and started yelling at her. Smith was extremely close to her face and spit on her as she yelled. The mother used both arms in an “X” shape to keep her from continuing to spit on her, the report said.
In response, Smith bit her left pinky finger. The mother bit back in self-defense, to which Smith pulled a black-handled kitchen knife with a silver blade out of a drawer. She said, “I will cut all of your clothes off that I paid for…” She then threatened to stab her mother with the knife in her right hand in front of her chest, the report said.
The mother got scared, pulled away and went to the bedroom to get her things. S grabbed a blue pair of scissors from the end table and pulled her hair, saying, “I will cut your hair off too, since I also paid for it.” Her mother pulled her hair, again in self-defense, and left the residence through the front door, the report said.
She then went to a neighbor’s house to call the police. S followed her outside and continued to yell at her, the report said.
S advised that she and her mother were in a verbal argument over chores. Her mother put her arms up, causing her finger to go into S’s mouth, and she bit her. She then grabbed a pair of scissors from an end table and held them behind her back, the report said.
S told her, “Get out of my house, and give me everything that I have spent my money on. Give me the braids and the clothes.” At that point, they separated, and her mother walked out the front door, the report said.
The two witnesses stated they heard the mother being disrespectful toward S. They also saw her pulled on S’s hair. At no time did they see or hear anything about a knife, the report said.
The aggravated assault claim is still under investigation. Although the mother described a knife being used to assault her, there were no witnesses or video evidence to substantiate her statement, the report said.
S was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). She was transported to Lake County Jail and released on her own recognizance. She is responsible for appearing in court on July 9.
