Three people were hospitalized Saturday night after a stabbing in Hawthorne that authorities say stemmed from a domestic altercation involving two men and a woman.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at a home on Southeast 223rd Street before two of the victims drove to a nearby CVS and Hitchcock’s plaza to seek help.
Investigators said all three people were injured in a physical fight that turned violent, though it remains unclear who introduced the weapon.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson confirmed one man is in the ICU but is stable. The other man and the woman involved are expected to be released from the hospital.
While the scene initially appeared severe due to the amount of blood, deputies said the injuries were not as critical as they first believed.
Officials stated that the altercation was isolated and poses no threat to the general public. No arrests have been announced as of Saturday.
Residents in Hawthorne said the incident left them shaken.
“It was kind of like I’m glad I’m home, I don’t want to go to town tonight,” said Hawthorne resident CP. “So it was kind of a little bit of nervousness. But we’re a pretty good town, and everyone is pretty much well safe normally.”
P said the town has changed in recent years.
“With the expansion, when everybody moved here in 2020 and 2021, things did get a lot more hectic. There is a lot more strangers. You know, nobody knew anybody.”
She shared her sympathy for those involved.
“What I’d want to say to the victims is you’re in our prayers,” P said. “You don’t take things out on each other with violence, when most everything can be solved by just speaking to each other and using words.”
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
