Zephyrhills bar manager chases garbage truck through streets, shoots driver: police

Zephyrhills bar manager chases garbage truck through streets, shoots driver: police

The manager and operator of a bar in Zephyrhills is facing attempted murder charges after police said he chased a garbage truck through city streets and shot the driver.

QD’SC, a Dade City resident and manager at LA Billiards, was taken into custody Monday on two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Zephyrhills Police Department.

According to detectives, C is believed to have gotten into an argument with the garbage truck driver around 5 a.m. on Friday, June 27, in the parking lot of a Wawa gas station off Gall Boulevard.

Authorities said the two men are “acquaintances” and knew each other prior to the incident. The victim told police he saw that C appeared to be intoxicated and suggested that Croson go home.

However, “the encounter quickly escalated,” detectives said.

C got into his black GMC Yukon SUV and followed the victim as he and his coworker got into their garbage truck.

Witnesses recalled seeing C pursuing the garbage truck through city streets. It was during that time that C grabbed a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the truck, police said.

C eventually crashed into the garbage truck near Dairy Road. Officials said the collision caused the garbage truck’s passenger-side door to open and one of the workers was thrown out. The worker sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The garbage truck driver arrived at AdventHealth Zephyrhills with a gunshot wound to his right forearm. Police interviewed the driver at the hospital, and said he was positively able to identify C as the shooter.

Investigators also obtained surveillance video from nearby businesses and a dash cam video from an independent witness — all of which they said confirmed “key elements” of the incident, including C’s aggressive driving, gunshots being fired and the final collision.

“Both victims’ accounts were consistent and supported by physical evidence and
surveillance video,” the police department said.

C was later located in Hillsborough County, and as of Monday, remained in custody pending further judicial proceedings.

Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is urged to contact
the Zephyrhills Police Department at 813-780-0050.
