A Family Dollar store in Immokalee caught fire on the evening of the Fourth of July, and the incident was caught on camera.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the fire at the store located at 610 N. 15th Street was reported at 7:59 p.m.
According to an employee, the fire was reported by a customer who said it was in one of the aisles. They said they attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher but eventually had to evacuate.
The video above shows thick, black smoke pouring from the roof and walls of the building.
Immokalee Fire Control District Chief Michael Choate said, “They’ve got a long road ahead of them. There was a lot of heat damage inside, a lot of smoke damage inside. Pretty much all of the inventory is going to have to be replaced. There are some structural components that were damaged as well. So, it’ll be closed for a little while.”
