Man killed, 2 injured in head-on crash on SR-40 in Volusia County

An Indiana man was killed late Monday in a head-on wreck on State Road 40 in Volusia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal crash happened around 11:20 p.m. Monday on State Road 40 at U.S. Highway 17 near Pierson.

The FHP said the Fort Wayne man was driving a 1999 Honda Accord east on S.R. 40 when he veered into the westbound lane and struck a 2003 Honda CR-V head-on.

The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, an FHP crash report said.

The other driver, a 35-year-old Ocklawaha man, and his passenger, a 30-year-old Ocklawaha woman, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, troopers said.

The crash is under investigation.
