A man was arrested in Bronson, accused of shooting his business partner in the back during an argument.
Levy County Sheriff’s deputies arrested JS on charges of attempted second-degree murder, solicitation, and conspiracy after shooting another man on Northeast 76th Street in Bronson.
The incident began over a text message that escalated into an argument once the victim and his boyfriend arrived at the property to talk with S face-to-face.
S’s initial testimony claimed the victim had threatened him and also charged at his partner, a pregnant woman, causing S to shoot in her defense.
However, the phone video taken by the victim appears to show that S’s partner was actually 30 feet away from the victim. He also turned away to run once S pulled out a gun.
Deputies say S shot the man in the back, and the bullet exited his chest.
“That videotape was actually used during the interview with the defendant to show how inconsistent the statement was that he was providing to law enforcement,” said Lt. Scott Tummond, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
“Ultimately, the defendant’s statement changed quite significantly, and with that video evidence, that really kind of sealed the deal, making the decision for the deputies that probable cause arrest was the correct way to move in this case.”
Deputies say the failing business that started the argument involved animals.
“It appears that the business venture was breeding and raising animals. I know at one point there was a mention of a duck. I’m not sure what other animals might be involved in this, but it was an unoccupied parcel of property in Levy County just outside of Bronson.”
The name of the victim has not been released. He is expected to recover in the hospital.
