Suspect killed in Florida officer-involved shootout, 2 others also found dead

Three people died on Sunday after separate shootings in Okeechobee that authorities say were related.

According to NBC affiliate WPTV, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the Brindaban Forest community around 1:30 p.m.

At the scene, deputies said they encountered a man wearing all black and armed with what appeared to be a rifle or long gun.

Deputies told reporters that the suspect began firing shots at them, which led to the death of the suspect. Two of the suspect’s neighbors were also found dead, with authorities saying they believe the deaths are connected.

WPTV reported that the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was also present at the scene due to concerns that explosive devices may still be in the area.

Martin County deputies and Okeechobee city police also assisted.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation.
