Suspected impaired boater crashes into docked vessel in Cape Coral canal

Suspected impaired boater crashes into docked vessel in Cape Coral canal

A man is accused of operating a 17-foot vessel while impaired, leading to him crashing into a boat lift along a canal in Cape Coral.

On Tuesday night, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers responded to a report of a single vessel incident in the canal just off the Caloosahatchee River.

FWC said the vessel traveled underneath an unoccupied boat lift and struck the stern of a docked vessel nearby.

The vessel’s sole occupant, 26-year-old CM, was ejected into the water due to the impact of the crash.

According to FWC, M showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital.

M received medical clearance before he was taken to the Lee County Jail on charges of boating under the influence and refusal to provide a breath sample.

FWC said this is an active investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

The Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County EMS also responded to the scene.
