A fire broke out at an apartment complex in Lauderhill on Saturday afternoon, prompting a large response from fire and police crews, authorities confirmed.

The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. at a unit in the 2000 block of Northwest 43rd Terrace.

By the time Local 10 arrived at the scene, the flames had been extinguished, but officials remained at the scene for several hours assessing damage and beginning an investigation into what caused the blaze.

According to the American Red Cross, two apartments were left “uninhabitable” due to water damage, though it remains unclear if the eight residents — four adults and four children — will be forced from their homes.

Roger Cassagnol, of the American Red Cross Broward County, responded to the scene and said, “This is my sense of trying to give back to the community. I’m doing the best I can. And me personally, I like helping people. I feel like this is a good steppingstone in trying to do the right thing, wherever I can, you know? Just trying to help the little guy in the community.”

As of Saturday evening, officials had not confirmed whether anyone was injured. Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
