An 18-year-old bicyclist was critically injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Escambia County.
It happened around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Olive Road and Charter Oaks Drive.
According to FHP, a black sedan driven by a 34-year-old Pensacola man approached the stop sign at Charter Oaks Drive intending to turn onto Olive Road. At the same time, the bicyclist — an 18-year-old Pensacola man — was traveling west in the eastbound-designated bicycle lane against the proper direction of travel.
FHP says as the sedan entered the intersection, he failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with the bicyclist.
The bicyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.
No further details were released.
