Wrong-way crash on Southern Blvd. kills driver, leaves another in critical condition

A wrong-way driver was killed in a Southern Boulevard crash that shut down the highway and left another driver critically injured.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the crash happened just before 7 a.m. and shut down the highway in both directions from the intersection of E Canal Street S to Hatton Highway.

PBSO says the driver, 24-year-old L’Q M of West Palm Beach, was driving his Chevy Malibu eastbound in the westbound lanes of Southern Boulevard.

While traveling the wrong way, M struck a Ford F-150 driven by 57-year-old JF, also of West Palm Beach, disabling and totaling both vehicles, per deputies.

M was pronounced dead at the scene, and Fermin was transported to St. Mary Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

PBSO deployed an emergency operations center to the scene.
