Shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, Miami Fire Rescue responded to a fire near Southwest 12th Avenue.
Crews said they found a three-story residential apartment complex with smoke coming from the second floor.
Firefighters went up and found an apartment on fire. Crews said they quickly contained the blaze.
The resident of the apartment had self-evacuated and was treated for smoke inhalation, according to fire rescue.
Fire rescue said her kittens were also given oxygen and taken by friends to an animal hospital in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The Miami Fire Investigation Unit was contacted to determine the cause of the fire.
