Bus carrying 37 people involved in minor crash at Boca Ciega High School

Gulfport police responded to a school bus crash Thursday morning near a local high school.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, the crash happened around 57th Street South and 11th Avenue South near the Boca Ciega High School bus loop.

A GPD release said a Nissan Altima with three passengers was illegally parked in front of a no-parking sign on 11th Avenue South.

As a student opened the rear driver’s side door, it ended up hitting a school bus carrying 37 students as it passed the vehicle.

“This caused damage to the door of the Nissan and a few scratches on the bus,” the release said. “There were no reports of any serious injuries or any visible injuries, however, approximately 7 people did request to go to the hospital. “

The Nissan driver will be issued a citation, according to police. The crash is still under investigation.
