Marion County jurors recently found a 21-year-old Ocala woman guilty of choking her mother and battering her brother during an argument over a video game console.
On Thursday, August 28, members of the jury deliberated for 20 minutes before finding AD guilty of domestic battery by strangulation and an additional charge of battery. The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 24, 2024.
On that date, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an Ocala residence in reference to a family disturbance. A female victim advised that her daughter, identified as D, had battered her and her son (D’s brother), according to the arrest report.
While speaking with both victims, deputies were informed that D had followed the victims home from a local park in order to “grab” a PlayStation 4 console. The report stated that when the victims arrived at the home, D was instructed to wait outside while the gaming console was retrieved.
D was standing just outside the front door when she began arguing with her mother over the ownership of the PlayStation 4. Court records indicated that D was “irate regarding a missing box and game for the console.”
The arrest report stated that D followed her mother into the home, where she grabbed her mother by the throat and choked her for approximately one minute.
The victim’s brother witnessed the attack and attempted to intervene. According to the report, D responded by attacking her brother, which included “grabbing his groin” and “squeezing” his facial hair.
Law enforcement officers attempted to make contact with D over the phone, but they were unable to reach her. An arrest warrant was obtained, and D was later apprehended and booked into Marion County Jail, where she remains in custody.
A sentencing hearing for D has not yet been scheduled.
