Woman flees to Chevron when fiancé allegedly hits her during argument

A Lake County man was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting his fiancé during an argument in their motel room.

An officer responded to Chevron, located at 1417 14th St., regarding a battery around 8:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Upon arrival, he met with the fiancé of 55-year-old MSM.

She advised that she was at a motel when the couple began arguing but was unclear why it started or exactly what it was about. She tried to leave, which made him angry. He then hit her near her left ear, and she went to Chevron to call law enforcement. M had left the area on foot wearing a t-shirt and jeans, the report said.

The fiancé was also unclear on how long they had been dating. When asked to clarify, she gave three different answers of three, five and seven years. She stated they had been living together within the same motel room, the report said.

During the investigation, she was uncooperative and frequently went off on tangents expressing her dislike for the officers. She refused to be evaluated by EMS and did not give a written statement, the report said.

Officers tried to find M in the immediate area without success. They also tried to call him but were taken straight to voicemail, the report said.

M was ultimately arrested the following afternoon at Chevron. He was charged with simple battery (domestic) and transported to Lake County Jail where he was released on $1,000 bond.
