Freight train strikes, kills pedestrian near West Palm Beach Brightline station

Part of Clematis Street was blocked Friday night after police say a freight train struck and killed a pedestrian.

Officers with the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) responded to an incident involving a pedestrian and a train just outside the West Palm Beach Brightline Station.

According to officers, the incident happened along the 500 block of Clematis Street around 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located a stopped East Coast Railway freight train blocking traffic.

An individual was also located near the tracks and pronounced dead, according to a WPBPD news release.

WPBPD says the investigation is ongoing.
