A fiery crash on southbound I-275 shut down part of the highway for hours Tuesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A tractor-trailer that appeared to be carrying sod failed to negotiate a curve on the exit 30 ramp that leads to Roosevelt Boulevard in St. Petersburg. The trailer overturned and caught fire after a fuel leak.

The driver, who was not identified by authorities, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, FHP said.

The crash was first reported at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and crews were still working to clear the road at around 11 a.m.
