A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Monday night on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County, troopers said.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes at mile marker 257 and involved a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, a 2007 Hino tow truck, a 2024 Honda Civic sedan, a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter van and a 2016 Dodge Challenger sedan.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling in the inside center lane when the tow truck, traveling in the center outside lane, changed lanes into the motorcycle’s lane. This caused the motorcycle rider to lose control and veer into the inside lane.
Troopers said the three vehicles that were traveling in the inside lane were unable to stop in time. The Honda Civic and Sprinter van struck the motorcycle and its rider, while the Dodge Challenger hit debris from the collision.
The motorcycle rider, a 30-year-old male from Longwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver, the drivers of the Civic, Sprinter van, and Dodge Challenger, as well as a passenger in the Civic, were not injured and remained on scene, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
