Tree service worker killed after trunk falls during routine cut in Florida

A 22-year-old tree service employee was killed Monday morning in DeLand, after a falling trunk struck him during a routine job an incident authority have ruled accidental but say underscores the dangers faced by outdoor laborers nationwide.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VSO) said the victim was working alongside a colleague on George Ryan Road at around 9:40 a.m. when the deadly accident occurred. The co-worker — operating a chainsaw from a bucket truck — announced he was beginning the cut after confirming the ground below was clear.

However, moments later, the victim returned to the area beneath the tree and was fatally struck, according to the news release.

VSO said emergency crews responded quickly, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say no foul play is suspected.

The sheriff’s office extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged continued caution in high-risk labor environments.
