1 dead after airborne car crash in Charlotte County

A car crash that took place in Englewood on Friday night left one person dead.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a car was traveling west on South McCall Road at a high speed. The car then veered off the road, became airborne, and crashed into a utility pole, which flipped the car over.

The crash caused the driver to be ejected from the car. The driver suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, but they were later pronounced dead.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
