Rescue crews took two drivers to the hospital after they opened fire on each other during a road rage incident, authorities said.
7Skyforce hovered above a heavy police presence near the intersection of Southwest Fourth Street and 92nd Avenue, at around 6:25 p.m. on Friday. Three cars were taped off in the area where the bullets flew.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue units responded to a call of a man shot in the chest.
Neighbors said they heard several gunshots just before 6 p.m.
“I thought it was a crash at first,” said area resident Dylan Hernandez.
But it was no car crash.
“This was a road rage incident,” said MDSO Detective Samantha Choon.
In total, 7Syforce showed three vehicles near where, investigators said, bullets went flying.
Choon said the incident started with some sort of argument.
“A verbal altercation started on West Flagler Street at Southwest 92 Avenue, and both vehicles were traveling south,” she said.
Investigators said multiple shots were fired between the two men driving.
When deputies arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
“Both of the individuals had gunshot wounds to the upper part of their body,” said Choon.
The men were taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.
7Skyforce also captured a rescue truck with one of the victims inside arriving at the hospital.
As of late Friday night, officials said, the men are listed in critical but stable condition.
“Now they’re expected to live,” said Choon.
Officers shut down the intersection, as they focused on a silver Toyota sedan with its front driver’s side door open.
Neighbors said they are feeling lucky that no one else was hurt.
“I’m surprised because it’s always so quiet around here,” said Hernandez.
It wasn’t until around 10 p.m. that police cleared the scene.
Detectives have not identified the injured drivers. It’s unclear what charges they may face.
