An 18-year-old De Leon Springs man was among two people who were killed early Sunday in a fiery Volusia County crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 2:53 a.m. on State Road 11, north of Daughtry Road, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the De Leon Springs man was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima north on S.R. 11 as a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado traveled south. The Chevrolet veered into the northbound lane for an unknown reason, entering the Nissan’s direct path and causing a head-on crash, the report states.
The Chevrolet overturned onto its right side and became engulfed in flames, troopers said. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.
Troopers believe the De Leon Springs man was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, adding the identity of the Chevrolet’s driver is pending word from the medical examiner’s office.
FHP is still investigating.
