A woman arrested on Saturday morning for allegedly shooting another woman in Miami Gardens is claiming she fired in self-defense.
According to an arrest report, officers responded to the area of Northwest 30th Avenue and Northwest 184th Street shortly before 10 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert.
A short time later, authorities learned a female had been shot and was found inside a Nissan Altima at Walt Frazer Park at 3201 Northwest 185th Street.
The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigators found two spent casings on the front porch of a home at 3001 Northwest 184th Street and detained a possible shooter, identified as 25-year-old Jahniya Imani Meda.
Detectives went to the hospital and were able to speak with the victim, who said she was driving in Miami Gardens and spotted her boyfriend’s vehicle parked at 3001 Northwest 184th Street, so she got out and approached the door, “knowing her boyfriend was inside with another female,” the report said.
