A fire inside an elevator shaft at the Florida Blue building that was expected to shut down Riverside Avenue for about two hours has been put out, according to officials.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the incident to News4JAX around 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday and said no injuries have been reported due to the flames.
The agency added at the time that the fire was out, the building had been evacuated, and crews were working to clear the smoke from the building.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the 500 to 600 block of Riverside Avenue was expected to be the most affected.
Around 7 p.m., Riverside Avenue had been reopened, and the scene was clear, according to a News4JAX photographer at the scene.
