The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said a Wimauma man was charged with the murder of a Bradenton woman on Friday.
A witness told police that his acquaintance, 28-year-old Cesar Cortes, asked him for a ride to his ex-girlfriend’s Bradenton home on 26th Street West.
At around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, while Cortes was in the home, the witness heard multiple gunshots and saw him flee the residence. The men then returned to their Wimauma homes, MCSO said.
Around an hour later, the witness called police to report the shooting. Responding officers arrived at the home to find 36-year-old Crystal Pena dead.
Cortes was identified as a suspect and apprehended by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at around 7:40 a.m. on Friday. He has been charged with murder, MCSO said.
