1 dead, 2 in critical condition after head-on Marion County crash

A person is dead and two are in critical condition after a head-on collision in Marion County late Saturday night.

Florida Highway Patrol said this happened just after 11 p.m. on SW 49th Avenue just south of SW 117th Place.

Troopers said a 70-year-old Ocala man was driving a sedan northbound when another sedan traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane, crashing into the front side of the sedan.

The 70-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 31-year-old passenger in the northbound sedan and the 35-year-old driver of the other sedan are in critical condition.

Two other passengers in the southbound vehicle were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
