Florida driver hits 3 Tampa kids who ran across street, killing 7-year-old: troopers

A 7-year-old girl died Sunday evening after she and two other children were hit by a truck on a Tampa road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said a Chevy Silverado driver from Hialeah was traveling southbound on North 56th Street near the intersection of Society Park Boulevard just before 8 p.m. when three children ran across the road.

An 11-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl were hit by the truck, investigators said.

All three children were taken to a hospital.

The 11-year-old and 8-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 7-year-old girl died at the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
