Pensacola woman charged with DUI manslaughter after fatal hit-and-run with bicyclist

A 42-year-old Pensacola woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter and other offenses following a fatal collision with a bicyclist on Sunday.

Troopers say the incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. on Lillian Hwy near Stafford Lane when HMWs, driving a 2015 maroon Honda sedan, allegedly failed to maintain her lane and collided with a 51-year-old male bicyclist traveling eastbound.

W fled the scene, leaving behind a piece of her vehicle’s bumper, which helped authorities identify her, according to FHP.

Troopers say the bicyclist was transported to a local trauma center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Florida State Troopers and Escambia County Deputies located W at her residence, where she had been involved in a second crash with an electrical junction box.

She was reportedly attempting to clean her vehicle when officers arrived.

Indicators of impairment led to a DUI investigation, and W was arrested after providing a breath sample showing a blood alcohol level of .180, according to the report.

W faces charges including leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death, DUI manslaughter, DUI traffic crash, tampering with evidence, and child neglect.

Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Investigators have taken over the investigation.

W is being held in the Escambia County Jail with no bond.
