Man arrested after attacking two people with folding camp saw, police say

A man was arrested Saturday night after Gainesville Police say he attacked two people with a folding camp saw.

Officers say BL, 40, jumped on the first victim and revealed the blade while she was retrieving her E-bike from him near 3714 SW 42nd St. She said she grabbed the blade to prevent him from striking her face, prompting the second victim, who was at Target across the street, to step in.

According to the arrest report, the second victim said L then threatened to kill him if he tried to check on the woman, knocking him to the ground and putting the blade to his neck. After putting his hand in L’s mouth to “fish hook” him, he was able to get out from underneath him and run away.

Law enforcement officers say L ran away upon questioning about the saw and ignored their commands. He was later seen in the parking lot of Walmart, where he fled from officers again and hid in the woods.

Later during questioning, L claimed the saw did not belong to him. He said he took it from the second victim, prompting the three to begin wrestling over the blade. However, both victims have cuts on their hands and arms consistent with their story.

L faces charges of aggravated battery and attempted felony murder.
