A man is wanted for a hit-and-run crash in Downtown Pensacola caught on surveillance video this past weekend.
Pensacola Police say it happened early Sunday around 2:50 a.m. in the 300-block of E Government Street.
Video shows a man in a chef outfit walking up an alley, between businesses, from the street. A short time later, the video shows a car hitting bushes, a tree and a fence as it exits the alley and drives off. The fence was destroyed in the process.
“He appears to be intoxicated,” Pensacola Police Officer Mike Wood said. “He walked to his vehicle, got into his vehicle and then obviously lost control of it and ran through a fence and came very close to hitting two young ladies.”
Police say the car is a gray Hyundai Genesis G80. Anyone with any information on the man’s identity is asked to contact Pensacola Police.
“We don’t know if he was actually a chef or if it was a Halloween costume,” Wood says.
The man was parked in a private lot behind Michael J. Griffith’s law firm.
“In the back there is a big tree stump from a tree that was struck by lightning,” Griffith said Tuesday. “And he apparently ran into that — his wheel well is left in the back along with some other pieces of his car. Then he came flying down here and ran into our fence and plowed it down pretty much.”
“He knocked out the posts that were sunk in concrete.”
Griffith said the damage is worth a few thousand dollars.
“I would like the guy to pay for all the damages that he’s caused and let the police handle it from there,” he said.
