Two people are hospitalized after exchanging gunshots in an Escambia County Whataburger parking lot Tuesday night.
Deputies arrived at the Whataburger on Pensacola Boulevard and Boone Street around 7:10 p.m.
Sheriff Chip Simmons is calling it a drug-related incident, as deputies recovered two pounds of marijuana on scene.
“One car backed into a parking space at the Whataburger, another car comes up and they automatically go to the rear-window of that car,” Sheriff Simmons says. “Clearly it’s intentional.”
Two people — who exchanged gunfire — are hospitalized “with very serious injuries,” according to Sheriff Simmons.
An investigation is ongoing.
There are no know suspects at this time.
The sheriff’s office is trying to locate a white Malibu that fled the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers.
No further details have been released.
